Hugh Jackman received the result of a biopsy for skin cancer after several recent tests. The actor announced this on Wednesday on Instagram, thanking his fans for their support, according to News Stv.

Australian actor Hugh Jackman revealed earlier this week that he is undergoing several skin cancer tests, urging people to get regular checks and protect themselves from the sun.

In his video message, the 54-year-old actor said his doctor noticed “little things that may or may not be basal cell carcinoma.” Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer and can be caused by excessive sun exposure. According to the NHS, treatment of non-melanoma skin cancer is successful in 90% of cases.

Hugh Jackman says he hopes his experience will remind people of the need to protect themselves from the sun:

• “Please don’t forget about sun protection! It’s just not worth the risk, no matter how much you want a tan. Believe me!”.
