USA: Drug Dealer Who Caused Michael C. Williams’ Death Pleads Guilty

A Brooklyn drug dealer admitted to supplying The Wire actor Michael K. Williams with fentanyl-laced heroin, which led to his death.

The Emmy Award nominee known as Omar Little on the HBO drama series The Wire was found dead on September 6, 2021 at his home in Brooklyn, New York. Authorities said Williams died hours after he bought heroin from a sidewalk vendor in a deal caught on CCTV.

Prosecutor Damian Williams, who is not related to the actor, said in a statement that the sale took place “in broad daylight in New York, stoking addiction and causing tragedy.”

Williams, in addition to his role as Omar Little, was also known for his role as Chalk White in Boardwalk Empire. Among his recent roles was the role of Montrose Freeman on the HBO series Lovecraft Country, for which he received a 2021 Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

The actor has been open about his personal battles with drugs over the years while filming The Wire, saying that playing Little as a drug dealer influenced him in real life.
