Now it’s official: Chelsea announced the name of their new manager on Thursday, with Frank Lampard taking charge of the Blues until the end of the season.
Frank Lampard, the new manager of Chelsea
The London team’s all-time top scorer (211 goals), Lampard replaced Graham Potter, the coach who was fired due to the very poor results of the former European champions: “Chelsea” is in 11th place in the Premier League.
“We are delighted to welcome Frank back to Stamford Bridge. Frank is a member of the Premier League Hall of Fame and is a legend of this club.
“As we continue our thorough and comprehensive search process for a permanent head coach, we want to provide the club and our fans with a clear and stable plan for the remainder of the season.
We want to give ourselves every chance to succeed, and Frank has all the attributes and qualities needed to lead us to the finish line,” co-owners Todd Boley and Behdad Egbali said in a joint statement.
Lampard, 44, was released by Everton in January this year due to poor performances.
The former England midfielder great was also on Chelsea’s bench from July 2019 to January 2021, making 84 appearances (44 wins, 17 draws and 23 losses).
Frank Lampard’s second term begins with a Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers: away on April 8.
Lampard’s goal is the highest possible place in the Premier League (recall that Chelsea is in shameful 11th place – this winter alone, the London team invested 300 million pounds in transfers).
The team from “Stamford Bridge” also reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League, where they beat “Real” in a double-header.
