
Six Leopard 2A4 tanks out of 10, which Spain V Ukraine they will leave the country in the second half of April, Spanish Defense Minister Margherita Robles said today on public television TVE.
The German-made tanks had not been used since the 1990s and were put into reserve, and adjustments and readiness tests had to be carried out after initial doubts about whether they could return to combat.
Spain announced last month that it expects to send tanks to Ukraine after Easter Sunday, April 9th.
Madrid has pledged to send a total of 10 tanks to Ukraine, and Robles noted that the Spanish military has begun repairing the remaining four.
Spain also trained 40 tankers and 15 engineers at a military base in the northeastern city of Zaragoza.
Other NATO members, including Germany, Poland and Portugal, have pledged to send a total of 48 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
