“It is important that the EU and its partners continue to exert targeted pressure on the Russian Federation and really implement sanctions,” said the statement of Prime Ministers of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, and his Slovak counterpart, Eduard Heger, who met in Trencin. to the west of Slovakia.

The EU and its partners must “prevent evasion of sanctions and create mechanisms to punish those guilty of crimes related to this aggression,” they added.

Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted that the sanctions could have negative consequences for the country’s economy.

This was the eighth joint meeting of the governments of the two EU and NATO member states, which until the moment of peaceful separation in 1993 formed a single state — Czechoslovakia.

Fiala and Heger called on the EU and NATO to remain united and continue to provide assistance to Ukraine.
