The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs says that in terms of net income, workers will take home €667 a month after taxes and contributions. About 585,000 private sector workers receive the minimum wage. Unemployment benefit also increased from 438 to 479 euros.

Across Europe, governments have raised the minimum wage due to falling living standards caused by high inflation. Increases in the minimum wage per economy ranged from over 20% in Germany and Latvia to over 5% in France, Luxembourg and Malta. The only countries where the minimum wage for the economy did not increase in January 2023 are Spain and Cyprus.
