Diat opens his way to the Spanish Prime Minister

Her candidacy for the post of prime minister parliamentary elections in Spainscheduled for December 10, going to announce tomorrow Yolanda Diatminister of labor and one of three vice presidents in a coalition government under a socialist prime minister Pedro Sanchez.

Diat, 51, from a family of communist unionists in the shipyards of Galicia, is the most popular member of government, surpassing even Sanchez himself, spurring her ambition to become Spain’s first female prime minister. Although he comes from the United Left, where the Communist Party plays a hegemonic role, Diaz mediates in all political spaces of the progressive bloc, maintaining his independence, with a more social democratic than radical profile.

Representatives from 12 political parties and movements, including her own political formation Sumar (Unity), United Left, Mas Pais (split Podemos) and environmental groups, will participate in Diat’s official candidacy announcement tomorrow. There will also be representatives from the two historic trade union federations CC OO and UGT, rewarding decisions to raise major base wages and strengthen unions, signed by Diat.

On the contrary, unless a last-minute agreement is reached, no Podemos representative is expected to attend, as the left-wing party founded by Pablo Iglesias has made it a condition to hold open primaries to select a left-wing candidate. However, this fact does not mean a final break. Moreover, several Podemos officials have already expressed their support for Diat’s candidacy and will attend the event, regardless of the party’s central line.

Meanwhile, Pedro Sanchez is on an official visit to Beijing, where he met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping yesterday. As the Spanish Prime Minister himself stated, he urged his host to speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and expressed support for Kyiv’s plan to end the war.
