The section of the Northern Ring Road (A0) of the capital is taking more and more shape every day, and the end of 2023 is increasingly becoming a possible date for the opening of traffic. On A0 Nord, Lot 3, between DN and A3 and on to DJ 100 (Afumati), Romanian constructor UMB seems to be pulling with all engines fired up.

Lot 2 A0 Nord is approximately 19 km from the road junction with DN1 to the road junction with A3 and on to DJ100 (between Ștefăneștii de Jos and Afumați) and after the bridge over the Boltasul River.

The Romanian developer UMB has been working hard here since last summer, asphalt has already been laid on a large part of the site. In addition, work is being carried out on all structures, most of the piles for bridges and roads have been removed, and it is possible to open traffic at the end of the year, at least partially – on 10 km from Dn1 to A3.

Asociația Construim România (ASCORO) droned two segments – DN1 – A3 and A3 – DJ100?Smoke, and the images show exemplary mobilization from the construction site. Currently, the construction site has reached about 40-45% physical development.

The first registration starts from the future junction of the road with the DN1 north of Otopeni and continues to the junction with the A3 highway:

The second shot starts, in the opposite direction, from the end of the section in Afumak, passes through the bridge under construction over the river Boltasul, through the junction with the Dj100 and also ends at the future junction of the road with the A3:

UMB, a developer with a tradition of early completion of facilities on highways

In recent years, the Romanian company UMB has been the most successful among highway builders, achieving exemplary mobilizations on construction sites and even grand openings before the contractual deadlines.

Here we can mention that UMB built and completed ahead of schedule the only section of the A7 open to traffic: 16 km along the Bacău lane, opened to traffic about a year ahead of schedule.

Similarly, UMB completed and opened ahead of schedule the section of the A1 motorway near Timisoara, which opened to traffic in October 2012, six months ahead of schedule.

UMB – originally a company from Bacău – currently works on a continuous frontage of more than 250 kilometers of the A7 motorway in Moldova. Practically, of the 13 sections of the PNRR A7, from Ploiesti to Paškani, UMB is building 10 of them.

Comparison between builders on A0: Romanians from UMB – more than 40% in 9 months / Greeks from Aktor – less than 30% in 18 months

About 71 kilometers are currently under construction on the capital ring A0 (about 101 km), of which 52 km are on the southern side.

On the north side, two lots are under contract with UMB and another lot has just been under contract with a company from China.

On A0 Nord – Lot 2, UMB started preparatory work last spring and entered the construction site from August 2022.

Less than two months have passed since the developer laid the first layers of asphalt on some parts of the site. Now, according to on-the-spot estimates, the work completion stage exceeds 40%.

UMB’s progress on the A0 is even more impressive when compared to another similar site, Lot 1 A0 South.

The Greeks from Aktor operate 18 km from the A1 to the DN6 (which contain only one junction on the route – the one leading to the A1). After a stuttering continued with the approval of the implementation project, work started in October 2021.

Currently, the work stage is below 30%, after almost 17 months of the 30 month contract have passed.

The official deadline for the Greeks is April next year, but “with the current “mobilization” we are starting to feel that we will be circulating between the A1 and DN6 in 2024,” notes the Pro Infrastructure Association.

The weak mobilization is also acknowledged by Christian Pistole, head of Autostrazi, who says that the constructor has already been given three negative certificates and that several meetings have been held with the company to discuss speeding up work.

According to Pistol, the Greeks have an ultimatum to reach 40% fitness between March and April, but are currently below 30% on the pitch…
