According to the Prime Minister, the minimum wage is now “at the highest level that has been historically set to date”, while noting that “since 2019, when we came to power, the overall increase has reached 20%”.
As he notes, “in itself, a new increase does not solve the problem, but our country is gradually moving closer to Europe in terms of income, and this convergence cannot be stopped.”
The post of prime minister in detail:
“From today, the minimum wage rises to 780 euros, which is the highest historical level to date. Thus, according to the results of the month, 585,000 working fellow citizens will receive a salary increase.
Since 2019, when we came to power, the overall increase in the minimum wage has reached 20%.
I am well aware that wages in our country are still low. Obviously, a new increase will not solve the problem by itself. But our country – thanks to the dynamic growth of the economy, which we have achieved in recent years – is gradually moving closer to Europe in terms of income.
Among 22 European countries with minimum wages, Greece is currently in 10th place. This convergence must not be stopped.
Our big bet for the next four years is even more dynamic growth in the incomes of all citizens, as long as the Greek people once again trust us to run the country.”
