OUR Finland will join NATO within a few days of his decision Türkiye to ratify its membership in the Alliance, NATO Secretary General said today, Jens Stoltenberg.

“All 30 NATO allies have ratified the accession protocol,” Stoltenberg said.

“Finland will officially join our Alliance in the coming days,” he added.

How will the balance of power change?

Finland’s entry would see a major shift in the balance of power in the region between the West and Russia, adding another alliance member to the Russian border as the war rages on in Ukraine.

It also represents a major diplomatic and strategic defeat for Russian President Vladimir Putin, who made clear before invading Ukraine that he intended to block NATO’s eastward expansion.

Finland’s entry, opposed by Russia, would greatly enhance NATO’s security and ability to deter Russian aggression, according to the New York Times.
