
A large-scale police operation of the Athens Security Subdivision of the Attica Security Directorate, with the participation of 200 police officers in various areas of Attica, Thessaloniki and Ilia, is in full swing to eliminate the criminal organization involved in illegal trafficking of immigrants and the production of fake travel documents.
This is a criminal organization with a specific area of activity, since its participation in:
- traffic of at least 2200 foreigners to and from Greece,
- issuance of more than 2500 legalization documents for a monetary commission and
- production of more than 8,000 fake travel documents.
Also, the criminal organization in question had professional structures for the preparation of forged documents, and so far 5 laboratories have been identified with a large number of forged documents and attributes for their preparation, and 10 apartments have been found to accommodate departing foreigners.
At the same time, more than 80 foreigners were identified and arrested, in respect of which preparatory measures were taken to leave the country.
The investigation identified points of entry and departure in other European countries, and digital evidence identified more than 30,000 digital dies for the production of identity cards and passports.
Houses, shops and “offices” are being searched, 36 people have been detained so far.
