The OGE inspector was sentenced to a pre-trial detention center after his marathon apology to the investigator on a complaint for a railway accident in Tempe.
According to ERT, he allegedly blamed the head of the Paleofarsalos station, while claiming that the head of the station, Larisa, who is also in custody, could have been alone on the shift.
In a 100-page memorandum he filed, he claimed that he simply proposed staff changes and his superiors approved of them.
The 63-year-old inspector stated that he was not aware that the two stationmasters left before the scheduled end of their shift, whereas he predicted the time in question between 10pm and 11pm when the three stationmasters would be on duty.
At the same time, he claimed that the passenger train did not run after 23:00. He also allegedly claimed that the previously arrested stationmaster Larisa had already worked at three stations, thereby justifying his decision to leave him only on the evening shift.
Both he and the other defendants are charged with felony obstruction of traffic, first-degree manslaughter and aggravated assault.
The inspector’s apology closes the first round of investigations and prosecutions into the Tempe train accident. Starting next week, new faces enter the scope of investigations and duties at a higher level.
