Macron: Opposition to pension reform does not justify violence

There is a dialogue about pensions that are developing, there are social reactions, but this does not mean that everything should stop, said French President Emmanuel Macron, arriving today at Lake Cher-Ponchon in the Alps, where he will present government measures to reduce water waste in France and more efficient use of it.

When asked that dozens of protesters had come to the lake to express their opposition to the reform of the country’s pension system, the French President considered it normal, saying that the opposition does not justify violence like the one that broke out in the rural Seine Solin.

water measures

French President Emmanuel Macron today presents a plan to improve water management. From Lake Cher-Ponchon in the Alps, Macron will introduce about 50 meters to reduce water waste and use it more efficiently.

His plan will have the main goal of “preparing for next summer,” which could be “difficult if the meteorological situation does not improve,” the French president said.

This winter in France has been particularly dry, with a record 32 days without rain, leaving the aquifer not recovering, which was 80% below normal as of March 1st.

In the face of climate change and recurring droughts, “water has become a strategic resource for France,” the president stressed.

According to experts, water reserves in the country will decrease from 10% to 40% in the coming decades.

“All sectors – industry, agriculture, tourism, entertainment, etc. – will be mobilized, because it is necessary to mobilize all the French so that water policy can move into a new era,” the Elysee Palace emphasized.

French government attempts to store rainwater in artificial lakes have been met with resistance from environmentalists and some farmers who denounce the “appropriation” of a “public good”.

In addition to addressing the issue of increasing water supplies, the government is promoting crops that are more drought tolerant. At the same time, he wants to increase the reuse of wastewater, which is currently used to 1% of its volume in France, compared to 8% in Italy, 14% in Spain and 85% in Israel.
