At the beginning of the year, RedBull boss Christian Horner admitted that Adrian Newey took a step back in the Austrian team. At the moment, in Formula 1, it is assumed that one of the best designers of the Grand Circus may end up in the rival Mercedes.

According to Damon Hill, Adrian Newey (RedBull) could end up at Mercedes

In mid-February, Christian Horner talked about Newey taking a step back. He did not speak of a “goodbye” but admitted that the engineer will no longer be at the forefront of the team that currently dominates Formula 1.

1996 Formula 1 champion Damon Hill provides interesting information: Adrian Newey will be tempted by a new adventure in the Grand Circus, this time in Mercedes.

Having been in a clear slump for the past two seasons (with a significant gap to RedBull, Ferrari and also Aston Martin), Mercedes will receive unexpected help from one of the best designers in recent F1 history.

According to Damon Hill, the deal between Newey and RedBull will expire in the near future, leaving the way open for a change of camp: the rival camp.

“His recipe for success is incredible. Every team he was in won the drivers’ title, the constructors’ title, we lost their series. He is a key character and what he can offer any team is invaluable,” he says. Damon Hill.

Continuing his speech, the 1996 world champion recalls a recent incident at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

“I can’t ignore what he did in Bahrain: he stood in front of the Mercedes car and looked at its front wings.

Anyone who knows Adrian will say, wait, you have the most powerful single-seater on the track, and you’re studying the front wing of the Mercedes ones?” he adds. Damon Hill.

Hill’s speculation has not yet been commented on by the two teams involved (RedBull and Mercedes), but neither by Adrian Newey.

Who is Adrian Newey?

The Briton at the age of 64 is one of the most important figures in the Great Circus. For a long time, he has competed with big names such as Williams (1991-1996), McLaren (1997-2005) and RedBull (2006-present).

Newey’s latest creation (the 2023 RB19 single-seater) looks very strong, as has RedBull’s single-seater for the past two seasons – triumphing in the battle with Mercedes and Scuderia Ferrari.

The next Grand Prix on the Formula 1 calendar will be the Australian Grand Prix, which will take place on April 2 at 08:00 (Romanian time).
