
Iulia Motsok, the current judge of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), announced on her Facebook account on Tuesday that she won selection for Romania’s candidacy to the International Criminal Court.
“I am honored to announce that I have won the selection for Romania’s candidacy to the International Criminal Court. I hope to represent Romania with honor and success. International criminal justice is at the center of the modern world, the unforeseen tragedy of war, which is now so close to us,” wrote Yulia Motsok on Facebook on Tuesday evening.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially announced the selection results.
“After discussions held in accordance with Art. 7 para. (1) from the Procedure for appointing a Romanian candidate for the post of judge of the International Criminal Court, the Selection Commission decided the following:
Candidate from Romania for the position of judge of the International Criminal Court – Julia Antoinella MOTOC
According to Art. 7 para. (2) The aforementioned proposal has been approved by the Government of Romania,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent.
Elections for vacant positions of judges of the Criminal Court will be held in December 2023. Two positions are assigned to the Eastern European group, which also includes Romania.
Judges are elected by secret ballot for a 9-year term, with those receiving the largest number of votes and a two-thirds majority of the participating states present and voting.
Thus, the candidate from Romania is Yulia Motsok.
