South Korean Kim Kyu-sung, 58, was suspended for 12 months after it emerged that tennis player in a wheelchair violated anti-doping rules, Reuters informs.
The International Tennis Federation (ITF) said a sample taken from the player in November 2021 contained a banned substance and Kim “immediately admitted the allegations”.
Kim initially agreed to a voluntary suspension starting on November 4, but was found to have violated the terms of that agreement by training with the national team and participating in a match that month.
The ITF, which is responsible for tennis’ anti-doping program, said Kim’s suspension began on March 24.
The South Korean Tennis Association and the World Anti-Doping Agency have yet to rule on the case.
