Morris was once one of the most important car manufacturers in the UK. Born in 1910, this is a manufacturer that took part in the automobile adventure very early. Like Peugeot here, Benz in Germany or Ford in the United States. In 1952 Morris teamed up with Austin to create a joint group called British Motor Corporation (BMC). This date marked the beginning of the future group (and global giant) British Leyland, which saw its brands peak in the 1970s. Rover, MG, Triumph, Jaguar, Mini, Landrover : then everyone was part of the same family! But after the success came doubts: in the 80s, the group separated from several brands, and even worse, the “doubles” were abandoned. This is the case of Morris, the general purpose manufacturer, which disappeared in favor of Rover, then in better health. Morris is a lesser-known brand to us than Rover, Triumph or, of course, Jaguar.
After MG the return of Morris
The brand continues to exist, but in a different form: MG ! Founded in 1924, the MG company was behind Morris Garages. Kudos to the Morris dealers who prepared the brand’s models in more sporty versions. Given its success, Morris spun it off into its own brand, which became MG Motor and specialized in small sports cars, particularly roadsters. Today, the MG brand still exists, although its DNA has changed: it is now a Chinese brand., which produces (among other things) electric SUVs. But those nostalgic for the “real” Morris wanted to restore the image of the brand, which has now disappeared. In 2017, Morris Commercial was reborn. At that time, it was a branch of the manufacturer dedicated to passenger cars. She returned from a neo-retro model of an electric van called JE!

This curiosity takes the silhouette and design of the Morris J-Type released in 1949 ! It is the British equivalent of the Citroën Type H, Volkswagen Transporter or Renault Estafette. Small light trucks that were used at that time to participate in the reconstruction of their countries! Christened Morris JE (for electric J-type), he takes trait after trait of his ancestor’s line. He can get on board two euro palletss, for a total payload of one ton. Three battery capacities will be offered, from 40, 60 or 80 kWh. Autonomy is announced for rise up to 400 kilometers.
The power of its engine is still unknown. However, we do know that its battery will take a Charging power 50 kW. It “Anti-Volkswagen ID Buzz” across the English Channel is well planned for marketing with us. Morris Commercial just did it fundraising for production (1000 units per year) of this funny car. Its commercialization will take place in the coming months. In the UK, it will start at £60,000 around 68,000 euros anyway!
