On her island Mykonos The president of the Association of Greek Archaeologists, Despina Koutsoumba, was found today in the shadow of an attack received by Cyclades Antiquities Authority archaeologist Manolis Psarros in the KAT region on March 7, 2023.

“We came to Mykonos to show that we are not afraid and to support our colleagues,” D. Koutsouba emphasized in her statements, announcing a series of meetings with institutions (hotel owners, restaurateurs, etc.) with the aim of “ask everyone not only to condemn the attack, but to isolate the elements that operate in Mykonos in a mafia fashion.”

After this story got out of hand, we received many reports that these elements, operating in a mafia fashion, targeted the people of Mykonos and the island’s law-abiding professionals.“, added the president of the Association of Greek Archaeologists, while regarding the qualification of the beating as a serious crime, she stated that “we are satisfied with this development, because they will open the phones so that we have more evidence to lead to a physical and moral offender , because it is clear that this is not a personal matter. For us it is very simple. Do they hit any of us? We need to get a response from the state. They must understand that mafia customs do not pass.”

He also talked aboutcases where our colleagues came face to face with armed bandits“, while pointing out the need for “fear to switch sides and for those who beat our colleague in order to get a message.” Regarding the issue of strengthening the police on the island, he expressed a request that “there are several police officers with experience in the field of protection of the natural and cultural environment”.

For his part, the mayor of Mykonos, Konstantinos Koukas, demanded, among other things, “staffing the police, like in the summer of 2021, when the number of cases that worry us was reduced to almost zero.”

It is noted that on Monday, March 27, at 17:00 in Gripario, the trade unions invite the mayor, the municipal council, institutions and associations of Mykonos, as well as all interested citizens, to an open discussion on the occasion of the “Mafia attack on my colleague M. Psarros”.

On Tuesday, March 28, ADEDY will stop work, which includes all government employees of the island, and hold a protest at 11:30 am at the Mykonos Town Hall.
