The horse featured in the Amazon Studios seriesThe Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power”, suffered a cardiac arrest during a rehearsal for a fight scene.
“The incident happened when the horse was preparing for a rehearsal. A veterinarian and a member of the American Animal Welfare Team were present at the time. An autopsy confirmed that the horse died of heart failure,” an Amazon Studios spokesperson said.
According to Variety’s website, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) immediately issued a statement condemning the incident and urging the entertainment industry to make changes so that productions do not use real horses.
According to sources, more than 30 horses participated that day for the needs of the series. The British company “Devil’s Riders” has been training horses for films and television series for 50 years. Trained horses have appeared in productions of Wonder Woman, Justice League, Game of Thrones, and The Crown, according to the company’s website.
