Union protesters outraged by president’s decision Emmanuel Macron raise the retirement age without a final vote on this issue in Parliament, blocked today Louvre Museum V Parisdisappointing crowds of visitors.

In a peaceful protest against Macron’s plans to force most French people to work two more years to 64 to balance the pension budget, dozens of protesters gathered around the glass pyramid of the Louvre. One banner read “Retire at 60 – work less to live longer.”

A long line of disappointed tourists stood in the courtyard of the Louvre.

“It’s a pity we can’t get in,” said one tourist from Australia, but added: “I can understand these people who have political motives.”

The protest took place a day before the 10th round of nationwide strikes and demonstrations, and after urban violence across France due to changes to the pension system.

In another case, the Paris police announced an operation to prevent unauthorized gatherings in front of the Center Pompidou, another major Parisian museum.

A guide to the Louvre came out to the visitors. “We hope you understand our reasons,” he told them.
