
A new train disaster – the second in less than two weeks – occurred on Saturday evening in Romania. In Galatsia, a passenger train that stopped at the station was hit by a locomotive that was heading towards it. The driver of the train was killed, two other CFR employees and a passenger were injured.
As a result of the accident, a mechanic, a conductor, a train master and a passenger were injured, all of them were taken to the hospital. A few hours later, the conductor of the train – a 53-year-old woman – died in the hospital.
According to CFR Călători, the accident occurred when the locomotive was coupled to the stock to form the Regio 7576 Galați – Mărășești train, the first car was rammed.
CFR Călători director Traian Preoteasa told Digi 24 that the locomotive was traveling at speed when it hit the first car of the train hard.
