A spokesman for Iran’s Supreme Security Council said today that strikes on Iranian-linked bases in Syria will not go unanswered. The deadliest U.S. raids against pro-Iranian forces have taken place in the past 24 hours, with a reported death toll of 19 people.
“Any pretext to attack the bases set up at the request of the Syrian government to counter terrorism and the Islamic State in this country will receive an immediate response,” Keyvan Khosravi said.
Iran claims its military and allies are in Syria at the request of Damascus and views US forces as “occupiers”.
It is recalled that on Thursday, an attack allegedly of Iranian origin was carried out using a drone against the Americans at a base in northeast Syria, as a result of which an American contract soldier was killed and five American soldiers were wounded. In response, US forces have launched strikes of their own against Iranian targets over the past 24 hours, strikes that Tehran now says it will not go unanswered.
