Mateusz Morawiecki’s announcement was made on the eve of the visit of the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, to Desamet, scheduled for Monday.

Seventeen EU member states and Norway agreed this week to jointly buy ammunition to help Ukraine with one million shells and replenish its own stockpile, the European Defense Agency said.

Dezamet, which produces shells for artillery, mortars and grenade launchers, is one of more than 50 arms enterprises of the PGZ group.

“This plant can count on new orders and financing, we will launch new production lines at this plant and at others for the production of ammunition,” Moravetskyi told RMF Radio when asked about Breton’s visit to the plant.

“We want to increase production several times as quickly as possible,” he added.

Morawiecki said he is also relying on private companies in Poland to increase ammunition production.

PGZ plans to increase its workforce by several thousand people, CEO Sebastian Chvalek said on Friday. Currently, the group employs about 20,000 people.
