Canada-US: Biden announces deal with Ottawa on illegal immigration

American President Joe Biden announced today in Ottawa that Canada and USA I will “work together to discourage illegal crossingson their common border, an issue that is hotly debated by Canadian politicians today.

Before the Canadian Parliament Mr. Biden he also “welcomed” Canada’s commitment to regularly receive 15,000 immigrants from across the Americas.

Canada will accept 15,000 humanitarian immigrants from the Western Hemisphere within one year as an alternative to illegal immigration.

Earlier today, a Canadian government source with knowledge of the talks told Reuters that the two countries have reached an agreement that could allow the closure of the unofficial border crossing between New York State and Quebec, but final details remain to be worked out. . . .

Addressing the Canadian Parliament, Biden also said that the United States and Canada are peace-loving countries, and both of them are united in their support. NATO act against “any threat”.

At the same time, the US and Canada have pledged to work together on a number of other issues, such as defense and security, as the two countries announced following a meeting between President Biden and Prime Minister Trudeau.

Canada and the United States recognize “a serious long-term challenge to the international order posed by the People’s Republic of China, including disruptive actions such as economic coercion, non-market policies and practices, and human rights violations,” the two countries noted in a joint statement.

Biden: We are not looking for conflict with Iran

The US President assured that Washington does not seek conflict with Iran, a day after he ordered airstrikes in Syria that killed pro-Iranian militants.

Biden, however, stressed that the US is ready to act “strongly” to protect American citizens.

The raid in Syria was ordered in retaliation for the death of one American and the injury of five soldiers in a drone attack.

“Make no mistake: the United States does not (…) seek conflict with Iran, but is ready to act vigorously to protect its people,” Biden said at a joint news conference with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

“China has not yet supplied Russia with weapons”

At the same time, he noted that China did not supply significant weapons systems to Russia for its war in Ukraine.

“I have been hearing for three months that China is going to supply Russia with a significant amount of weapons,” Biden said at a joint press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. “They haven’t done it yet, that doesn’t mean they won’t, but they haven’t done it yet,” he added.

“I don’t take China lightly, I don’t take Russia lightly,” he continued, but assessed that the information about the rapprochement between Moscow and Beijing was probably “exaggerated.”
