Emmanuel Macron: “We will not succumb to violence”

French President Emmanuel Macron denounced the violent incidents that accompanied yesterday’s protests against pension reform and said he would not back down.

“We will not succumb to violence, I condemn violence in the strongest possible terms,” Emmanuel Macron said during a press conference following the conclusion of the European summit in Brussels.

The French President said that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen would accompany him on a trip to China in early April.

“I invited President von der Leyen to accompany me during part of the visit to present a unified European voice” in Beijing, Emmanuel Macron said.

Charles’s visit in early summer

As for King Charles III’s visit to Paris, which was postponed due to social unrest in France, he said he had proposed a new “early summer” date.

“We said that at the beginning of the summer, depending on our schedules, we could organize a new official visit together” by the British monarch. “Reason and friendship force us to offer a reprieve. We would be frivolous and lack logic if we offered a visit in the midst of protests, ”Emmanuel Macron said.
