In a new sharp criticism of her Turkey said the Democratic senator Bob Menendezaddressing a number of questions to the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken and stating that he does not believe that the F-16 sale should take place in Ankara.

In particular, the senator referred, in particular, to Turkey’s violations of the airspace and territorial waters of Greece, the Cyprus issue, the purchase of Russian military equipment from Ankara, as well as its non-participation in sanctions against Moscow, in the context of the war in Ukraine.

In continuation, Bob Menendez also referred to Turkish airstrikes in Iraq and Syria, which, according to him, are aimed, among other things, at US partners.

He even pointed out that Ankara is blocking a major expansion of NATO, referring to the issue of Sweden and Finland joining the Alliance.

Asked by a Democratic senator how he would characterize such a country, the US Secretary of State said he would call it a “difficult ally.”

“I call this country Turkey,” Menendez replied. “I don’t believe he has the right to sell F-16s.”
