Any attempt to arrest Vladimir Putin by a foreign country after a warrant for his arrest issued last week by the International Criminal Court (ICC) would amount to a “declaration of war” against Moscowwarned his ally Dmitry Medvedev today.
“Let’s imagine (…) the head of a nuclear state enters, say, Germany, and he is arrested. What is this; A declaration of war on Russia,” Medvedev, the former president of Russia and now number two on the Russian Security Council, said last night.
If this happens, then “all our capabilities, missile and other, will fall on the Bundestag, the chancellor’s office and so on,” added Medvedev, who was used to loud statements.
The stern warning came after the International Criminal Court in The Hague last week issued an arrest warrant for Putin for the war crime of “deporting” children from Ukraine as part of Moscow’s aggression against Ukraine.
Yesterday, Wednesday, the ICC denounced “threats” against it coming from Moscow after the Russian judiciary announced that it had opened a criminal case against its judges and prosecutor Karim Khan.
Earlier this week, Medvedev had already threatened the ICC with a missile attack, urging its judges to “keep their eyes on the sky.”
Russia, which does not recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC, called the warrant for Putin’s arrest “invalid”.
