President of the Plenum of Presidents of the Greek Bar Associations and President of the Athens Bar Association. Dimitris Vervezosafter bloody episode near the Court of Appeal of AthensCalls on the government and relevant ministers to immediately take all necessary security measures in the courthouses and to entrust duties to the police officers, who have been drastically reduced.
“Today’s bloody incident near the Court of Appeal of Athens, and even during the work of the court in the presence of the police, which demonstrated an unacceptable inaction of significant interference, demonstrates the complete absence of significant security and protection measures in the courthouse, where a significant number of officials and fellow employees of the justice authorities, judicial employees and citizens.
It is unthinkable that human lives are at stake in the central part of the city near the Supreme Ice and GAD (!!!). We must not again mourn the victims, lest the tragedies we experience in the last days be repeated. Retrospective excuses and acceptance of responsibility will again not be enough (…).
We call on the government and the competent ministers to immediately take all necessary measures so that justice is administered in conditions consistent with the European rule of law, and those who come to the country’s courthouses in any capacity feel and really are safe.
Moreover, it is not enough to carry out another useless EDE, of the kind indicated in the calendars, but to assign duties directly to these police officers, who have been drastically reduced to intervention.”
