Russian lawmaker Oleksandr Khinshtein, deputy secretary of Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party, said on Monday that military prosecutors had opened a criminal case against Dragomiretskyi after he was accused of receiving large sums of money.

The deputy did not elaborate on the evidence against the Russian officer or his role in the case, but said the arrest was the result of efforts by the Federal Security Service (FSB) and the National Guard.

Khinshtein also reported that the general is suspected of receiving a bribe from a military contractor for concluding a contract in the Moscow region.

The Russian state press writes that according to the preliminary data of the investigation, 19 million rubles (about 250,000 dollars) were deposited into Dragomiretskyi’s accounts.

Such arrests are extremely rare in Russia, a country known for its widespread corruption, which does not spare even the country’s armed forces.

Viktor Zolotov, the commander of the National Guard, was considered one of President Vladimir Putin’s most trusted generals before the war in Ukraine, but it is unclear how much he remains in the Kremlin leader’s favor after his units suffered huge losses during the war. combat operations

Suspicion of corruption surrounds the general commanding the Russian Guard

Zolotov himself was involved in a corruption case, and last fall several Russian investigative websites reported that five years ago he flew aboard a private jet to the Seychelles accompanied by an army of beautiful women and several other high-ranking Russian Guard officers.

The trip is considered controversial, since only a day before, Zolotov signed an exclusive contract with the companies of oligarch Boris Vaninsky to supply the Russian Guard with food.

Investigative journalists found out that the contract prices were higher than the market prices.

Zolotov’s nephew Artem studies at the prestigious British Crainleigh School, although the official propaganda of the Kremlin-controlled TV channels and Putin himself constantly criticize Western “decadence”.

Zolotov’s son Roman owns an estate worth $10 million, and his daughter Zhanna has a 500-square-meter apartment in Moscow worth $5 million.

According to some estimates, the total wealth of the Zolotov family will amount to more than 30 million dollars, and previously Russian investigative journalists wrote that most of it is real estate, a gift from Putin to his favorite general.
