Grant agreed, telling website IndieWire in a statement, “I love Sam and miss him. The truth is that we were all convinced that the film would fail, right up to the first screenings. I made a mistake and the movie changed my life. It was the beginning of my friendship with screenwriter Richard Curtis, and I have always respected Mike Newell for teaching me things that I still use today.”

This is not the first time the British actor has commented on the film. In 2017, he told the Deadline website: “They wanted to give me the worst haircut in the world – and they failed because the haircut was copied and people asked for it from hairdressers.”

Grant worked with Curtis again on hit films such as Notting Hill, There Is Love and Bridget Jones’s Diary.

Grant and McDowell reunited on March 12 at the Dolby Theater to present an Academy Award nomination. And it was undoubtedly one of the most beautiful moments of the evening.
