It’s called the iCar GT, but it’s not Apple’s electric car. We’ll have to wait a bit to see the first car signed by the tech giant, while the iCar GT will arrive much earlier on April 18 and will be produced by Chinese brand Chery.
Known mainly for its compact cars and crossovers (including the Omoda 5, which will also be sold in Europe), the brand is ready to unveil a new line, including small electric sports car.
First a sports car, then an SUV
The first sketches of the iCar GT are promising and show a sports car with sleek, futuristic lines. Even if this model is only electric, the coupe has the typical proportions of a front-engined carwith a long hood and fitted back.
The rear is also characterized by T-shaped headlights that vaguely resemble certain Polestar models, and a black diffuser whose function is probably more aesthetic than aerodynamic.
The official presentation of the car will take place on April 18 at the Shanghai Motor Show. It is on this date that we should know all the technical characteristics of the model. According to the first known information, the starting price should be between 40 and 50,000 eurosWhat makes it a competitor to MG’s upcoming roadster?
Soon in Europe?
However, iCar GT will not be the only novelty of the brand. Chery will continue its expansion with an electric SUV, internally named “S56”. According to the first renderings, it will be a reliable model, with the silhouette is similar to the Ford Bronco, Land Rover Defender and other Mercedes G-Classes.
Chery’s strategy is very similar to rival BYD, which recently introduced Yangwang, a brand that will sell a very off-road crossover and supercar. These two manufacturers also plan to enter Europe.
