Cătălin Cîrjan refused to play for the Romanian U20 national team

Cătălin Cîrjan was initially shortlisted for the U21 team, but was informed by Emil Săndoi that he would have to move to the U20 national team (trained by Daniel Pancu) and the London Arsenal-registered player declined the call-up.

“Emil (Nie Sandoy) spoke to him. I wanted it, but he did not accept it, he understood that the summons is valid only for young people under the age of 21. He is free to choose, just as we are free not to ask players for the national team, that would be the top!

I prefer someone who comes with an open heart, not someone we have to pray to. If he has such problems, I understand that they exist, I can only wish him success in his career” – Daniel Punkuquoted by ProSport.

In the past, Kiryan has motivated his refusals to come to the national team by the fact that there is a chance to get a call-up to the main team of “Arsenal” (he has trained several times with the senior team, and in December he played in a friendly match against Olympique Lyonnais).

At the age of 20, Kiryan was recruited by Arsenal in 2019 from Viitorul Domneşti. The midfielder has made 12 appearances for Arsenal’s under-23s this season, scoring once.

On Saturday, the football player published a short message and a photo from the training session of the Gunners: “In life, you go where you are appreciated.”
