The family minister said that politics has nothing to do with sports, and in football, as in all other competitions, fair play is required.
“I welcome UEFA’s decision to reject the request of the Hungarian Football Federation to fly the flag of Greater Hungary at matches. We should also appreciate the quick reaction of the Romanian Football Federation, a member of UEFA, which is categorically against the display of symbols that could lead to violence in stadiums.
The flag of Great Hungary, which includes a part of Romania, is a revisionist symbol and has no place in stadiums and matches at the European level. This is only a potential pretext for inciting hatred and violence.
Politics, especially if it can divide nations, has no place in sports. In football, as in all other competitions, fair play is necessary, that is, respect for the opponent and the country from which he comes.” – Gabriela Firea on Facebook.
The Romanian Football Federation (FRF) said in a statement posted on its official website on Wednesday that UEFA did not allow it and will not allow the display of the symbols mentioned by the Hungarian Football Federation in matches organized at European level. The reaction came after the Hungarian federation announced itUEFA and FARE would agreeso that banners representing historical Hungary could be at national team matches.
