Hellenic Association of Shipowners: 100 scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year

One hundred scholarships will be offered this year by the Hellenic Shipowners’ Union to study in Greece and abroad in postgraduate programs at the doctoral level, for a full one or two year study.

The event of the official presentation of the annual scholarship program took place today at the Piraeus Nautical Club.

Shipping Minister Yiannis Plakiotakis said that Greek shipping, in addition to being a very important national capital, is also the country’s biggest strategic pillar, contributing the most to our national economy and the development of our homeland. He said that in 2022, the inflow of maritime foreign currency from the current account balance exceeded 23 billion euros.

He emphasized that, in cooperation with the relevant ministries and the Hellenic Shipowners’ Union (EEE), measures have been taken to increase the competitiveness of Greek shipping, as well as to maintain a stable institutional framework, which is also the basis for the development of Greek shipping.

He also added that the goal of the Ministry of Shipping is to involve young people in the maritime profession and, more broadly, in the management of shipping.

For her part, EEE President Melina Trawlow thanked the Minister of Shipping, talking about the fellowship program, she said that through this the Union recognizes value, rewards excellence, honors the new generation over time.

He added that the Greek Navy has been actively supporting the young men and women of our country for many years, noting that this year the annual number of scholarships has increased. Referring to the civil non-profit social company of the Greek shipbuilder SYN-ENOSIS, she said that the shipbuilding industry is the only one with a collective body of social solidarity.

Ms. Travlow noted that in recent years alone, EEE has provided more than 80 million euros through this instrument for important projects across the country.
