Gabriela Ruse crashed out of the ITF tournament in Maribor, Slovenia after a surprise 7-5, 6-1 first round loss to Slovakia’s Rebecca Sramkova.

According to Agerpres, Ruse, who is ranked 145th in the world, lost in one hour and 42 minutes to her rival with a much lower ranking (276 WTA).

Sramkova led 3-0, Ruse tied the score, 3-3, the Slovakian then had 5-3, but Ruse tied the score again, 5-5, but Sramkova won 7-5. Sramkova clearly won the second set, 6-1, after being 5-0 down. It was the first match between them.

In doubles, Iryna Bara and Andre Mitu qualified for the quarters after 5-7, 6-0, 10-7 with Slovenia’s Pija Lovrich/Nina Potochnyk after one hour and 20 minutes. In the quarterfinals, Bara and Mitu will play against the fourth favorites of the British Maia Lumsden/Emily Webley-Smith.

Iryna Bara is the seventh favorite in the singles category and on Wednesday, in the first round, she will play against the Turkish Pemra Ozgen.

The total prize fund of the ITF tournament in Maribor is $40,000.
