The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia on Tuesday excluded four countries from a possible attempt to mediate in the conflict in Ukraine, the RIA Novosti agency reports, citing Agerpres.
The statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry, posted on the website of RIA “Novosti”, is a reaction to the proposal of the former president of the Munich Security Conference (in 2008-2022) Wolfgang Ischinger to create a contact group regarding Ukraine. to “launch the peace process”.
According to Ischinger, this group should unite the USA, Great Britain, France and Germany. All 4 received from Russia a refusal of possible mediation.
“Officially, we do not know anything about such an initiative. However, Ischinger’s idea raises legal questions,” RIA Novosti said in the Russian Foreign Ministry, noting that “all the mentioned four countries themselves are participants in the conflict with Russia, which is ongoing on the territory of Ukraine.”
In a statement to RIA Novosti, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia also informs that it learned about Wolfgang Ischinger’s initiative from the press.
“These countries support (Ukrainian President Volodymyr) Zelensky’s pseudo-peace initiatives, which are unrealistic ultimatums for Russia to surrender,” the Russian Foreign Ministry also stated.
Russia takes on the mantle of “denazification” and “demilitarization” of Ukraine
According to Russian diplomacy, the four countries would have already discredited themselves when they supported the “unconstitutional coup” in Kyiv (as Moscow calls the 2013-2014 Maidan protest movement that led to the arrival of pro-European forces in Kyiv) and “encouraged sabotage of the Minsk agreements.”
“Thanks to such approaches, the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany cannot claim the role of neutral mediators who launch the peace process. They are not interested in solving the crisis and are doing everything to prolong the confrontation as much as possible,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation claims.
In Moscow, they believe that a truly comprehensive, fair and long-term settlement of the conflict in Ukraine is possible only as a result of the cessation of hostilities and the cessation of supplies of Western weapons, recognition of new territorial realities, “demilitarization” and “denazification” of Ukraine, confirmation of its status as a neutral country and outside the military blocks
In addition, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry, this includes the lifting of sanctions against Moscow, the withdrawal of lawsuits against Russia, the restoration of the status of the Russian language, the rights of national minorities and friendly relations with Russia and other neighbors of Russia. Ukraine, the press secretary of the Kremlin told RIA Novosti.
“Unfortunately, the Western countries that pretend to play the role of mediators do not offer any of this,” concludes Russian diplomacy.
