In 1973, the FIA organized the World Championship for the first time the official representative of a discipline that is already extremely popular in Europe and other countries: rallying. From now on, winning the world crown will be contested on the road and on the track. In the deserts and in the mountains, a crowd of crazy racing cars. The applicants are named (the list is incomplete) Fiat Abarth 124, Saab 96. Ford Escort RS1600, DS21, Porsche 911 and… Alpine A110. This inaugural World Rally Championship features 13 events, including one in the USA and two on the African continent. And at the end of the season, which ran from January 19 to December 2, a small brand from Dieppe became the first manufacturer to be crowned World Rally Champion.

San Remo 73

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of this historic event, Alpine has created a new limited edition. Following the 1975 A110 Tour de Corse, introduced almost a year earlier (150 examples). Here is the A110 San Remo 73, which will produce only 200 examples for the world. If you know a little about rallying, you might wonder why you decided to christen the car the San Remo 73. Indeed, it could have been Monte Carlo 73, the first rally of the season already won by Alpine.

It could have been Tour de Corse 73, the last race of the season, where Alpine made it a treble. But the fact is that San Remo, 10thousand A calendar event of 1973 that took place from October 10 to 13, worth remembering. Because it is, thanks to 1time place of Jean-Luc Terrier and on 3thousand place of Jean-Pierre Nicolas, which Alpine secured the top title. The dominance of little Dieppoise in this first World Rally Championship will be complete. Brand finished with 147 points. In second place on the podium, Fiat settled for 84 points.

(Almost) a faithful tribute

Based on The S version with a sports chassis and a 300 hp engine, the Alpine A110 San Remo 73 adopts and modernizes the aesthetic codes of its distinguished ancestor. The body is painted Caddy blue. The carbon roof is covered with red varnish. There are also white graphic embellishments with black stripes and everything is embellished some signed “San Remo 73”. We personally regret that Alpine did not complete the process. Preferring white rims instead of orange and yellow historic cars.

Inside, we mostly store Sabelt bucket seats, decorated with “World Champion 1973” embroidery. These seats can be equipped with 6-point seat belts as an option. Want to offer yourself this future collector’s item? Do not delay, there will not be enough for everyone. Orders are accepted from Friday, March 17. The price is 89,000 euros including VAT.
