Along the way, Vangelis Chronis managed to balance inside and out many opposing pairs of properties or activities. He studied, for example. and maritime, but also English literature. He was – for almost three decades – a close collaborator of Giannis Latsis, but he is recognized as a writer who left his mark on the spiritual life of the place. The only thing that unites dual forces is his character: modest, sweet, reserved with a refined sense of humor. A few days ago, a collection of his texts was presented at The Theoharakis Foundation by Kastaniotis Publications under the title “Eithalis chronos” with an elegant cover design by his dear late friend Alekos Fasianos.

In this book, he always covers a wide range of topics with his thought and vision, showing that he can again gracefully move between two contrasts, in this case prose and poetry. At the presentation of the publication, a number of personalities of intellectual caliber sat at the same table: from Giorgos Babiniotis and Giorgos Chronas to Giorgos Maniotis, Nikos Davvetas and Julita Iliopoulou. Excellent discussion moderator Thanasis Niarchos. Giorgos Babiniotis emphasized: “Vangelis Chronis is constantly struggling with language. An inherently unequal match for all of us, from which this poet comes out with his head held high. He continuously struggled from one collection to another, deepening his art and technique. Always in awe of the giant called the Greek language,” and Giorgos Chronas, in turn, added that the words of the poet flow inside us: “Where each of us reaches, where he wants to reach.”

One of the book’s most charming features is the interest that Vangelis Chronis takes in the past, history and its fragments that he finds in museums. It also connected him to Alekos Fazianos, who passed away last year. As Giorgos Maniotis pointed out, he travels to the antiquities “to communicate with them, to taste something in their lives, to win their trust, so that one day they will entrust to him the secret of their eternal youth and the truths underlying their uniqueness.” their greatness.
