Iran: Two men sentenced to death for attack that killed 15 at mausoleum

Iranian court imposed death sentence two men for attacking a Shiite mausoleum in Iran during which they were killed 15 people in October and the Islamic State jihadist group claimed responsibilityThis was reported today by the official news agency IRNA.

This was stated by Fars Provincial Prosecutor Kazem Mousavi. the two men were found guilty on charges including “spreading corruption around the world” and allegedly acting against national security.This is reported by IRNA, adding that they can appeal the verdict.

CCTV footage shown on state television shows the militant entering the popular Shah Serag Mausoleum in the southern Iranian city of Shiraz with a gun hidden in a bag and opening fire on worshipers trying to escape and hide in the corridors.

The shooter, who was identified as his citizen Tajikistanlater died from injuries sustained in the attack, to the hospital.

Two men on death row said during their trial that they were in contact with the Islamic State in neighboring Afghanistan and that they helped orchestrate the attack, Iranian media reported.

According to the prosecutor, three more men were sentenced to prison terms – from 5 to 25 years – in the same court.

The Islamic State, once a security threat in the Middle East, has also claimed responsibility for previous attacks in Iran.
