2011 and 2014 Wimbledon champion Kvitova was defeated Maria Sakkari (favorite 7), score 4-6, 7-5, 6-1. The game lasted two hours and 15 minutes.
Petra (the No. 15 seed) was leading 6-4, 2-0 and appeared to be in control, but Maria made an impressive comeback to claim her fourth consecutive three-set victory at the tournament in the California desert.
Maria Sakkari will battle for a place in the final against Aryna Sabalenko (second favourite) after the Australian Open champion beat Coco Gauff (6) 6-4, 6-0.

Indian Wells will be held from March 6-19 on hard and 96 players have started in the two main draws. The contest offers $8,800,000 each for men and women. Titled champions – Taylor Fritz and Iga Svyatek.
