On the occasion of the presentation of the concern’s results for 2022, BMW talked about its near future, in particular the appearance of the long-awaited Neue Klasse platform which will equip most of the following electric BMWs.

We will have a preview of this new platform this year, early next academic year, at the Munich Motor Show, with a new concept car that will undoubtedly be more “realistic” than the BMW i Vision Dee concept presented at the beginning of the year in Las -Vegas.

Arrival is expected in the second half of 2025

The production version of this electric compact car will arrive in the second half of 2025, when production will begin at the Hungarian plant in Debrecen, dedicated exclusively to the Neue Klasse platform. It certainly will electric version of the new generation BMW 1 series. It remains to be seen whether it will bear the name “i1”.

From 2026 at the historic factory in Munich, and from 2027 in San Luis Potos, Mexico, the assembly of other electric models will also begin, which the manufacturer will soon introduce.

The Neue Klasse will be equipped with six new electric models

BMW’s model range will include within two years at least six different models is based on the same NCAR (New Cluster Architecture).

The first two models based on the Neue Klasse platform are already more or less known, as it will be an “SAV” (from Sports Activity Vehicle, according to BMW terminology) and a sedan in the same segment as the BMW 3 Series. .

The BMW Neue Klasse will feature a new generation of powertrain, including a high-voltage electrical system and batteries with optimized cells and improved chemistry. All this translates to 30% more range compared to the current level, 30% shorter charging time and almost 50% lower production costs.

The Neue Klasse will therefore be a strategic lever for BMW to quickly increase sales of electric models in this range. The group aims to sell 15% 100% electric models in 2023, 20% in 2024, 25% in 2025, 33% in 2026 and 50% in 2030.

Brand CEO Oliver Zipse also confirmed the 2023 launch of the new BMW 5 Series, which will also be offered in an electric i5 version. Next year, the manufacturer will also present the i5 Touring version. There will also be something new from Mini, as the first 100% electric Countryman will appear very soon.
