Special Court of Appeal investigator Sotirios Bakaimis is demanding an apology from the three railroad workers who have already faced serious charges in connection with the tragedy in Tempi.
We are talking about a traffic inspector who put the inexperienced station chief Larisa Vasilis Samaras on night shifts, as well as two station chiefs who, on the day of the accident, were required to remain at their post until 23:00, but left earlier.
The traffic police inspector was prosecuted for violating traffic safety, a criminal offense punishable by imprisonment for a term of 10 years to life imprisonment. He was also charged with negligent serial murder, as many as those killed in the tragedy, and inflicting bodily harm of the same criminal qualification as the wounded.
As for the station chiefs, they face the same serious charge as the traffic inspector, the charge has already been brought against the head of the station Larisa Vasilis Samaras, who is now in custody.
Apologies for all three have been scheduled for next Friday, while their defense lawyers will likely ask for a deadline to prepare their apologies.
