Popular sitcom Apple TV,Ted Lasso“, returns to March 15, 2023 with the third and possibly final cycle of episodes.
While the cast and crew haven’t revealed the details of the sequel, we do know that the first episode opens with an existential crisis for American football coach Ted (Jason Sudeikis).
While he maintains a positive demeanor, the signs of his declining mental health are clear, from the difficulties of changing his family in Kansas to his inability to deal with his talented former coach, Nate (Nick Muhammad). Kylie (Juno Temple) is trying to get used to her daily life as the boss of her own business, and AFC Richmond is in last place in all pre-season rankings.
Success
The award-winning series captivated fans from the very first episodes. This community has grown, with the result that “Ted Lasso” is now a landmark in modern pop culture.
But why was it so successful? To begin with, the viewer does not have to be a football fan to enjoy the show. The first season aired on the streaming platform in August 2020, during the first quarantine and the spread of the coronavirus around the world. The kind-hearted and always good-natured Ted, entangled in the day-to-day life of the British football team, evoked a kind of comfort and sympathy from the audience.
Spin-off plans
In a recent interview with Deadline, Jason Sudeikis stated that he was not ready to say goodbye to the character he created and played, as well as to the series.
He says he may return to the role of Ted at some point in the future. “This is the end of the story we wanted to tell, hoped to present and loved. People will want the story to continue, but they don’t yet know that the third season is satisfying. Maybe by May 31, when all 12 episodes of the season are released, they will be like: “Okay, we understand, we are happy. We don’t need more episodes.” But until that moment arrives, I will value people’s curiosity beyond what we have prepared.”
As for whether there will be spin-offs, Sudeikis, along with fellow co-creators Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly, are ready to consider the idea.
“Yeah, I think we set the stage for that… expansion of those stories. The fact that viewers want the show back, even in a different form, is great.”
