“Why It’s Saturday Night” with Stereo Nova at the 2023 Athens edition

This year’s rich and varied program Liberate Athens Another date is coming up.

So Saturday, July 15 on her stage water area raise Solid Nova as headliners on a big festival night, with an impressive production and a matching audiovisual show that will feature music from their entire discography as well as their new single to be released in early June.

Stereo Nova, i.e. Konstantinos V. and Michalis D., appeared in 1992 almost out of nowhere and were supposed to change the history of the domestic music scene. With a do-it-yourself aesthetic and after several rejections from record companies, they release their first self-titled album and not only define an entire generation, but also usher in a new era and culture that was still part of the nascent but small underground scene. . The explosion of Athens club life was not long in coming, and the words of Konstantinos V. reflected the life of a modern metropolis, from semi-illegal parties to the loneliness of the next day and the stress of everyday life.

The first period of the group’s existence will give us four more records, each of which is a kind of contribution with a set of sounds and songs that have never ceased to be relevant and sound modern and sharp. “Discolata” (1993) makes them famous with hymn songs like “Nea Zoi 705”, “Pazl Ston Aera” and “Little Boy”, while “Wireless World” (1994) finally gives the band its place. in the domestic musical reality. The next stage, the landmark “Telson” (1996), is their magnum opus, which was presented at the famous concert (in a crowded Rodon) that united all the musical tribes of Athens. The release of the equally powerful “Vitamina Tech” (1997) marked the end of Stereo Nova and the beginning of the solo careers of its two members.

Almost twenty years should have passed, and we got to 2018 to open a new cycle for the group. Stereo Nova returned to the discography the same as they appeared in the 90s: no one expected this. “Uranos”, their sixth album, is another special work and a convincing proof of the special place they hold in the history of Greek electronic music.

In June, they will release a new single, the tracks of which will be presented on the show on July 15, among all those songs that to date characterize their career indelibly. They will be joined on stage by Petros Tsaparlis on drums, with video and art editing by Nikos Patrelakis.
