Environment Minister Tanchos Barna told Prima News on Monday that they have not yet received written consent from the Ukrainian side to inspect the dredging of the Bastro Canal, but he is confident that they will fulfill their promise by March 15. . The minister said that the flows in Chile have not changed significantly, they are within the statistical parameters of the last 20 years, News.ro quotes.
“We have not yet received a written consent from the Ukrainian side, but I am convinced that they will fulfill their promise and by March 15, there are still two days until they send us a written consent, as they promised in the bilateral meeting that took place last week,” – said the Minister of Ecology.
He clarified that this written agreement is necessary “in order to go out with three ships and measure along the depth at Kiliya, and then enter the Bastro channel, which is one hundred percent on the territory of Ukraine, and be able to check the depths to calculate the flows, if only dredging was carried out to maintain the depths and ensure that the flows did not change in such a way as to affect the biodiversity of the delta in the medium to long term.’
According to Tanchos Barna, the ships that will go to this area belong to the Ministry of Transport, they are equipped with sensors, with room for the crew, and the activity lasts for several days.
“We made several cuts, we measured 14 points and compared them with the data we had from 2017, and there is no change in these fixed cuts that are on the Chilean arm,” the minister said.
Tanchos Barna continued: “The depth of the Bastro does not affect the depth of the Chili Arm, and in any case not in weeks or months. If you believe the statements of the Ukrainian side, then it is not bad that he was only engaged in hardening. If other depths are found in this calculation, along the length, i.e. every meter is 170 km, then everything may look different. What I can tell you now is that the flows in Chile have not changed significantly, they are within the statistical parameters of the last 20 years. Things need to be analyzed in perspective, any work will show its long-term consequences,” said Barna.
“I think that the Ministry of Natural Resources of Ukraine clearly signals that from now on they want to respect the ESPO agreement regarding investments,” said Tanchos Barna.
The minister also noted that the measurement works will last 10 days, two weeks.
