Tasula-Christodoulidis meeting: “You symbolize the hopeful beginning of the Cyprus question”

Newly elected President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos ChristodoulidesChairman of the Greek Parliament Konstantinos Tasoulas was invited to the Greek Parliament today.

K. Tasoulas presented the President of the Republic of Cyprus with the golden medal of the Hellenic Parliament “The Seal of Liberty of 1821” with the accompanying papyrus, expressing the wish that “Cyprus will receive its own” Seal of Freedom “from the shackles of the acquired, from the shackles of occupation, from the shackles of the past, and become a single country, prosperous for all its inhabitants.”

Mr. Tasoulas, speaking to Mr. Christodoulidis, said: “You symbolize a hopeful new beginning for the long-suffering national question of Cyprus, which also remains the main issue of Greek foreign policy.”

He also expressed confidence that “with the support of the Cypriot people, we will resolutely come to what we want. That is, to a solution consistent with Security Council resolutions, with European legislation consistent with reunification.”

For his part, N. Christodoulidis conveyed the gratitude of the Cypriot people for “the catalytic role played by the Greek Parliament in the most important foreign policy success of Cyprus since its inception in 1960, which was none other than the accession of the Republic of Cyprus to the European Union in 2004.”

As he noted, “it is in this integration into the great European family that we are investing today so that we can achieve our number one priority, which is nothing less than the liberation, the end of the occupation and the reunification of our homeland. Cyprus cannot be the last divided country, a member state of the European Union.”

The President of the Republic of Cyprus noted that “we will do our best, in coordination with Greece and other member states of the European Union, to break this deadlock and finally find a solution to the Cyprus problem.”

Tragedy in Tempe

The President of Parliament also referred to the “oppressive shadow of an unbearable tragedy Pacein which Hellenism was finally affected”. He emphasized the need to “find out, but above all, sweep away the causes of this incredible tragedy and allow the country, the people, shocked today, to move forward, leaving behind such tragedies, which both psychologically and practically immobilize us” .

“Condolences on behalf of the Cypriot people in connection with the unspeakable tragedy in Tempi,” the President of the Republic of Cyprus expressed, emphasizing that this tragedy “should remind all of us in power, all of us, that the people, through electoral procedures, they choose us, to lead our country – and if you want this to be the best memorial – to do everything possible so that we do not experience such tragedies again.
