On Monday, the European Union extended until September 15 the sanctions it imposed against Russian individuals and entities for the illegal annexation of Crimea and the full invasion of Ukraine, sanctions that also include President Vladimir Putin, EFE and Agerpres reported.
Since 2014, the EU has imposed sanctions against 1,473 individuals and 205 organizations, including Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Violeta Prigozhina, the mother of the Wagner Group leader, remains on the list despite the fact that the EU’s General Court overturned sanctions against her last week on the grounds that family ties were not sufficient grounds for sanctions. , for the first time the European justice ruled against the restrictive measures adopted by the EU since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine.
The verdict can still be appealed, but the EU Council “has not yet taken a single step” in this regard, European sources told EFE, so for now the restrictive measures against Violeta Prigozhina have also been extended.
All individuals and organizations that have been sanctioned have had their goods and assets frozen in the EU and are prohibited from entering the EU.
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, on February 24 last year, the EU has approved 10 packages of sanctions against Moscow. The latter was approved only a year after the start of the war by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
