
Ukrainian forces face constant attacks Russian in Bakhmut in his Donetsk region Eastern Ukraineboth sides suffered significant losses.
The situation in the almost deserted city is difficult, Colonel Alexander Syrsky, commander of the Ukrainian ground forces, said today, but added that his forces repel all Russian attacks.
“All enemy attempts to capture the city are repulsed by artillery, tanks and other means,” Sirsky said.
The colonel added that the Russian group of mercenaries “Wagner” “attacks from different sides, trying to break the defense of our troops and advance towards the central regions of the city.”
Prigogine: The situation is “very difficult”
Ukrainian forces control western Bakhmut while Wagner controls the eastern part, with the Bakhmutka River forming the front line.
Wagner founder Yevgeny Prigozhin acknowledged yesterday Sunday that the situation in the city is “difficult, very difficult.”
“The closer we are to the city center, the fiercer the fighting (…) The Ukrainians are constantly sending reinforcements. But we are moving forward and will continue to move forward,” he stressed.
Prigozhin also noted that Russia sent ammunition to his troops.
“Yesterday we received 15 trucks, today 12. And I think we will continue to receive more,” he said, adding that there is no conflict between his forces and Russian troops.
Zelensky: More than 1,000 Russians died in Bakhmut
For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said late Sunday evening yesterday that more than 1,100 Russian soldiers had been killed in Bakhmut in recent days.
“In less than a week, starting on March 6, in Bakhmut alone, we managed to destroy more than 1,100 enemy soldiers, which is an irreparable loss for Russia,” he said.
He also added that Russian troops have suffered 1,500 “deaths”, that is, soldiers who have been seriously injured and can no longer fight.
Yesterday, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that more than 220 Ukrainian soldiers were killed in Donetsk over the past day.
Prigozhin stated that Wagner would “start a reset” and start recruiting new fighters after taking Bakhmut. Wagner opened recruitment centers in 42 cities.
