Russia: Soldiers’ mothers and wives urge Putin not to send men ‘to be slaughtered’

A group of Russian wives and mothers has called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop sending his husbands and sons “to the slaughter” forcing them to join the assault squads without proper training and supplies.

In a video posted by the independent Russian Telegram channel SOTA, the women said their loved ones were “forced to join the assault teams” in early March, despite having only completed four days of training since being drafted in September.

The video shows women holding a poster in Russian with the inscription “580th Separate Howitzer Artillery Battalion.”

“My husband… is at the front against the enemy,” the woman in the recording says, also revealing elements of Russian tactics.

“Conscripts are sent, like sheep for slaughter, to storm fortified areas – five by five, against 100 enemy soldiers armed to the teeth,” he continued. “They are ready to serve their country, but in the specialty for which they are trained, and not as special forces. We ask you to withdraw our children from the front and give us artillery tanks and ammunition.”

More than 1,000 Russians have been “neutralized” in Bakhmut alone in a week, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday evening.
