Launched a few months ago, new Mercedes T-class it is an MPV based on the latest generation Renault Kangoo. More premium than its French cousin, the T-Class is aimed at families, outdoor enthusiasts and transport professionals.

The German manufacturer has just introduced a new version of the layout of the model with a version designed for wheelchair users (transportation of people with reduced mobility) and developed by the French coachbuilder K-Automobilité.

Mercedes T-Class TPMR: specific layout

This version of the Mercedes T-Class modified by K-Automobilité features a lowered rear floor as well as a balanced manual ramp and allows configuration 4 seats + 1 stroller aboard. The solution offered by K-Automobilité comes from the German specialist AMF-Bruns, a certified coachbuilder of VanPartner, the Mercedes coachbuilder certification label.

THE a system of ramps called Easy-Flex, patented: when the ramp is not in use, it folds up to blend into the boot floor, making it easier to load luggage. In the second row, two special and spaced individual seats allow the wheelchair to move forward.

If we talk in detail, the transformation is based on the T 180 class, equipped with a gasoline engine with a capacity of 131 horsepower, and is not compatible with diesel engines. Ramp control is facilitated by a hidden gas spring and the vehicle has been tested to the latest CE 2018/858 standards. The wheelchair attachment complies with Directives 76/115/CEE, 76/541/CEE and ISO 10542-1/2001, and the transformation allows you to benefit from VASP Gray Map : thus the vehicle is exempt from fines.

Mercedes T-Class TPMR: a transformation approved by the brand

This solution for a T-class wheelchair has another advantage: this transformation almost does not change the original appearance of the rear bumper, while the side lining of the trunk is preserved.

The adaptation of this solution to the T-class has been confirmed by Mercedes-Benz Vans bodywork relations in Germany. This collaboration enables this version of the TPMR to be equipped rearview camera and rearview radars.

This TPMR solution for the T-Class complements the already existing TPMR conversion offers based on the Vito/eVito Tourer, V-Class, EQV and Sprinter. For other people transport professionals, such as taxi companies and VTCs, an extended version of the T-Class is due to be launched during 2023.
